This is a plein air watercolor I completed during an artists’ retreat at the Oregon coast. Most of the artists fled to the shore to paint the thundering ocean; a few of us stayed back and painted this serene view in a very private meadow along the creek, enjoying the quiet it offered, accented by songbirds and the running water.

These trees were painted during a summer trip to the Oregon Coast. They are lined along the shore, thickened by age and shaped by salt spray and the wind.

A Christmas gift for my grandson, Alex, who loves trains. He was two and a half at the time. There were so many parts to the engine and rail cars that I had to decide what to paint and what to leave out. Painting anything mechanical is a challenge for me.

This was painted as a Christmas gift to my son and his wife. It was made from a photograph I took while on the mainland in Greece, in 1994.
| This painting is from an old snapshot of a lake house I took near Eagle River, Wisconsin. Living on water has always appealed to me. I envisioned myself living in this house as I painted it. | ||

This lake house painting is from a photo I took years ago, while living in Eagle River, Wisconsin. I remember walking on the pier, which was old and rickety and had a nice view of the lake. Most of the homes in this area were old and large, with many rooms.

This is painted from my imagination. It is intended to represent the flowing fields of commercial grasses and distant buildings of the Willamette Valley. Grass seed is an important part of the agricultural history of Oregon.

This cabin appears uninhabited as it stands in snowy trees. This painting was inspired by a label on a whiskey bottle I saw on a friend’s shelf. Later, it was used as the print on a Christmas card I sent to friends and family. |
