Seascapes

Rocky Creek (2007).

Bandon Lighthouse

2001

11 x 15

This was painted from a photograph I took while walking the shoreline near Bandon, Oregon. The lighthouse was abandoned, and I had access to enter and climb to the top where the light used to be. The view of the Pacific Ocean was breathtaking.

Lighthouse on Bluff

2005

11 x 14

This lighthouse doesn’t really exist. Neither does the bluff. The painting was completed for my students, as a study in depth and perception.

Lighthouse On The Cape

2007

12 x 15.75

I love lighthouses. Lighthouses are powerful beacons standing tall in gusts of wind and storms. Their lights reach out to ships at sea and help guide them to safe harbors. This is just one of a series of lighthouses I have painted.

Maine Lighthouse

2005

11.25 x 15

I completed this painting as part of a series of lighthouse studies. The inspiration was from a photograph given to me by my mentor. I particularly liked the building design presented from this viewpoint.

Old Lighthouse

2005

11 x 16

This is part of a series of imaginary lighthouse studies I completed a few years ago. The purpose of this painting was to play with perspective and height.

Oregon Beach

2008

12.25 x 16

This plein air was painted during the summer of 2008 at an annual artists’ retreat to the Oregon coast. I found a secluded cove and set up my easel and paints. Later, two more artists joined me and we shared this lovely spot on a warm sunny day with laughter and valuable critiques.

Oregon Coast

2008

15.25 x 22.5

This painting is an amalgam of scenes, both real and imagined, from the Oregon Coast. In early morning the rocks look brownish rather than the grey of late afternoon. I added more rocks and erosion to heighten the viewer’s interest.

Rocky Creek

2007

12.25 x 16.25

This was painted from a beautiful spot on a huge bluff overlooking the ocean. The distant houses were interesting subjects across the cove because of their color and setting. I well remember this rare day of sunshine and warmth at the Oregon coast.

Seal Rocks

2007

11 x 14.5

I painted this scene on a beautiful afternoon in Lincoln County, Oregon. I was sitting with four or five other artists, balancing on a narrow strip of land. We all had fun, laughing, enjoying the sun, and painting. I later learned people have lived, hunted, and vacationed here for centuries: probably even longer.
